Office Star 5 Shelf Bookcase
Since our last post on string lights was so popular, I thought you might enjoy a second dose. For this version I've rounded up all of our favorite brands to see what they have to offer. First up, Restoration Hardware.
Retail for $45
Now look closely, here's the version from Ballard Designs.
Retail for $39
Did you catch that? Yep, I'm pretty sure that is the exact same picture from both Restoration Hardware and Ballard Designs. Let's take a closer look, shall we?
The RH lights come in two sizes, both priced at $45. The small bulbs are 1.5 inches in diameter and have 20 bulbs per 21 foot long string. The large bulbs are 2.25 inches in diameter and have 10 bulb per 11 foot string.
Now let's see what the Ballard Designs version looks like. There are 24 bulbs per 25 foot string. There is no information on the BD site about the size of the bulbs, but I would assume they are they smaller ones.
Can you see what they did there? Offering slightly different versions of what is obviously the same product so they can avoid direct competition with another brand. The best comparison here is the small RH strand of 20 bulbs for $45 vs the BD strand of 24 bulbs for $39. Ballard is the clear winner here.
Now let's see what everyone else has to offer. Next up, Pottery Barn.
Retail for $39.50 -$75
These are available in 20 bulb, 39 foot strands and 40 bulb, 41 foot strands. No word on the site of the bulb diameter, but I'm thinking in the 1.5 inch range. But wait! That's not all Pottery Barn has to offer.
Retail for $24.50-$54
That's right, Pottery Barn is really overachieving by offering 4 options in the globe string lights category.
These oversized bulbs are 2.5 inches in diameter and come in a 8 bulb, 9.5 foot long strand or a 20 bulb, 22 foot long strand.
So let's see what Crate & Barrel can bring to this (garden) party.
Retail for $34.50
Since it's all in the details, here's the nitty-gritty on these babies. Each strand is 25 feet long with 25 1.5 inch bulbs per strand.
So between all the brands you can get from 8 to 40 bulbs 1.5 to 2.5 inch bulbs on a 9.5 to 25 foot strand for $24.50 to $75. How's that for options?
